Sustainable development Green IT: the commitment of COMIRIS Group

There is no doubt that the issue of sustainable development has been at the heart of both public and private debates and preoccupations for several years. With this in mind and due to the international scope of the debate, COMIRIS Group has striven to reduce its environmental impact since the creation of the company.

As a developer of distance video communication solutions, it is in the very nature of COMIRIS Group to implement a global service in accordance with sustainable development. It would be irrational not to apply an environmental policy to our group, which we recommend to all our customers.

In this context, various action has been taken by COMIRIS Group to reduce its carbon footprint a little further each day and establish itself as a responsible company.

Waste management

End-of-contract products are tested by COMIRIS Group before being repackaged and provided for a second sales cycle in order to avoid producing new waste.
A technical team carry out tests, remove confidential data, and audit and reconfigure equipment in "factory" mode, including equipment destined for destruction for obvious reasons of confidentiality.
In the latter event, COMIRIS Group operates in compliance with European standards in terms of recycling WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)

In-house policy

In order to reduce consumption of water and electricity, COMIRIS Group has implemented an internal communication policy aiming to promote awareness amongst employees, and installed low-energy light bulbs. In line with a "no paper" policy, each printer requires a password in order to release the document, all support systems have been made virtual in order to limit sending paper documentation and the use of recycled paper is promoted.

In terms of equipment, the available videoconferencing tools allow COMIRIS Group to limit travel and desktop computers have long since been replaced by laptops.

Involvement of partners

Environmental restrictions are present throughout the life cycle of products. For this reason, COMIRIS Group suppliers use environmentally-friendly facilities and equipment.Just a few examples amongst many are Epson which takes environmental considerations into account when selecting components and packaging for its video projectors, Tandberg which uses recyclable aluminium components and Dell which uses bamboo materials for its packaging.

Likewise, TNT, the main supplier of COMIRIS Group in its international logistics, signed the United Nations Global Compact on 2nd October 2003 and is committed to following the 10 principles relating to human rights, basic social rights in the workplace, environmental protection and the battle against corruption.
